Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When do your calendars come out? Do I have to request one?

The Continuing Education Calendar is printed annually, the calendar is distributed in early September. Continuing Education calendars are distributed city wide in our local papers but are usually available a few weeks prior to distribution.

If you are interested in receiving one prior to distribution, call us at (250) 561-5846. Downloads are available in many formats on this site. For a complete calendar download click the calendar image in the left column conveniently located on all pages, or check the course pages for a convenient printable page of each individual course outline. You will need Acrobat Reader to view these documents.

  1. What are your office hours?

Many of our courses run during the evening or on weekends but our office hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. Our admissions office hours are Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 5:00pm and Friday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. During peak times of the year admissions will extend their office hours.

  1. Who do I talk to if I have questions about a course?

If you have questions about course dates, seat availability or supplies needed you should contact admissions at (250) 561-5801. If you are looking for more detailed information on a course or need a custom course developed for your training needs please feel free to contact our programme coordinators.

  1. Does my course require a text or other supplies?

If supplies or Texts are required you will be notified when you register for your program. All texts required for programs are available at the College Store.

  1. The company/band/agency that I work for is paying for my course. How do I register?

One of our registration forms is specifically designed for a company to sponsor an employee.
Please contact (250) 561-5801 for a copy of our sponsorship form.

  1. What do I have to do to formally withdraw from a course? Do I get a refund?

A full refund will be given if a student withdraws from a course/programme one or more days prior to the advertised course registration deadline date. Non-attendance does not constitute a formal withdrawal. Refunds will take approximately three to four weeks to process.
No refund of fees will be given if a student cancels on or after the advertised course registration deadline.

  1. What happens if the course I registered for is canceled?

A minimum number of paid registrants is required to proceed with each course. We reserve the right to cancel any course due to insufficient enrollment. If we are running the course at a later date the student is offered the opportunity to enroll in the later offering, if they decline they will be issued a refund. Refunds will take approximately three to four weeks to process.

  1. What happens if I know I'm going to miss a class?

If you are unable to attend a class it is always best to inform the instructor at the earliest opportunity. The instructor can then determine the best course of action, whether it be to assign homework or reschedule some time in the case of an exam.

  1. When do I get my course marks?

We offer three different classifications for our programs:

"Citations" - citations are offered for programs that have been approved by Education Council.

"Successfully Completed" - to receive a successfully completed letter you must have written an exam and achieved a passing grade. The exams will not be released but will be kept on file for three weeks, during this time the students are welcome to come in and review their exams.

"Participation"- to receive awards of participation you must have attended at least 70% of the program. Often the instructor will distribute these at the end of class, or they will be mailed within the next few weeks.

  1. What will I receive at the end of my program?

Citations are official College qualifications awarded in recognition of the successful completion of studies which last between six hours and five months. Citations incorporate an evaluation of the participant and, where appropriate in partnership arrangements, identify the partner. Citations are granted only for those programmes which have been approved by Education Council.

Letters of Successful Completion may be granted for educational pursuits which have not been reviewed by Education Council. The minimum period of studies is 6 hours and there is a formal evaluation of participants.

Awards of Participation may be granted for educational pursuits which have not been reviewed by Education Council. There is no minimum period of studies established and there is no formal evaluation of participants.
