A Community FASD Prevention Program:  Healthier Babies - Brighter Futures (HBBF)

 

HBBF

Healthier Babies Brighter Futures (HBBF) is a nationally recognized program that takes a three-pronged approach to FASD prevention and supporting women to have healthy pregnancies: intensive support to women at risk of alcohol and substance use during pregnancy; community education, training and awareness; and policy development. 

 

HBBF’s Family Support Workers develop supportive relationships with women and families to provide wrap around service provided on an individual basis.

 

Family Support Workers:

 

    • Provide FASD prevention strategies and support
    • Support healthy lifestyles
    • Advocate for affordable housing
    • Support prenatal care
    • Promote good nutrition
    • Encourage family strengths
    • Encourage positive parent and child interactions
    • Teach parenting skills
    • Advocate for participant needs
    • Provide assistance with completing forms
    • Make referrals to community agencies and resources.

Workshops

 HBBF provides community education, awareness and training sessions about FASD. Workshops include:

    • Introduction to FASD
    • Effects of Alcohol During Pregnancy
    • Intervention, Prevention and Support for Individuals Living with FASD
    • Supporting Marginalized Families who Live with FASD
