Burns Lake, the "Heart of the Lakes District", is surrounded by five thousand kilometers of lakes in north western British Columbia. This unique region is characterized by the rolling lowlands of the Fraser Plateau.

The region's expansive freshwater lakes provide a myriad of recreational opportunities and wildlife experiences and the District also contains an extensive volume of timber available for a number of business opportunities.

Burns Lake, the main business hub of the area, believes a strong community is built on pride in its people, and in providing investors and residents alike with a secure place to live, work and raise a family. With a positive and progressive attitude toward the business community it serves, Burns Lake is "Open For Business".

Burns Lake is located at the junction of Highways 16 & 35 and is two hundred and twenty-six kilometers west of Prince George (the largest city in Northern BC). Burns Lake offers all the amenities of a larger centre while maintaining the charm and character of a small community. Burns Lake acts as a service centre for the communities of Southside, Topley & Granisle. Six distinct First Nation organizations exist in the area, thus the history of the Lakes District is rich with First Nation legends.

First Nations in the Lakes District

The Lakes District is home to six distinct First Nations. The College of New Caledonia, Lakes District Campus, has worked extensively with all Nations in the area to provide education to their communities and members.

CNC Lakes has modified several vocational programs to incorporate local First Nations culture as part of the curriculum:
