Southside Carpentry
At the beginning of February ten students began a Carpentry Foundation Program at the Grassy Plains Elementary Secondary School. This is the first time in the history of CNC that a full time trades training program has been held on the Southside of Francois Lake. Pictured here are nine students participating in the program and their instructor, Lori Moroski. Four of the students are from local high schools. They can receive credit towards their high school graduation in addition to their first level of a carpentry apprenticeship through the cooperative efforts of SD91 and CNC. |

Olympic Torch Relay
The Ashurst Children’s Centre children participated in the Olympic Torch Relay celebrations in Burns Lake on January 30, 2010. The tots joined forces with other local daycares and Muriel Mould Primary school students to sing rousing renditions of “Land of the Silver Birch” and a local composition, “We are from Burns Lake”, written by Shahayla Johnson-Charlie. The local community turned out in full force for the torch celebrations and, with a background of falling snow, the torch was welcomed to the stage with loud cheering and flag waving. |
