Aboriginal Cultural Competency

This introductory workshop will give you an overview of Carrier culture.  Increase your awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal people in order to build stronger relationships, nurture new ones and to share with one another our diverse backgrounds. After completion of this 5 hr. workshop you will:

· Have a broad awareness of the diversity of First Nations in Canada

· Understand the main impacts facing First Nations today

· Understand three basic social structures of Carrier people

· Explore questions of fiduciary rights and entitlements, socioeconomic situations and models of governance (i.e. Keyoh vs. electoral governance, demographics, etc.)

· Recognize differences

between traditional versus contemporary ways of being (ie. Health and wellness, business relationships, self-determination. 5 Hrs

Air Brakes Endorsement

You’ll receive  theory and practical training plus the Motor Vehicle Branch pre-trip inspection in this 20 hour course. To obtain an Air Brakes license endorsement, students must write the Motor Vehicle Branch Theory Exam. Students must supply their own Air Brakes manual.  20 Hrs

Bookkeeping - Basic

If you are a beginner bookkeeper then this is the course for you.  You will learn the generally accepted accounting principles, the three forms of business organization, different kinds of money-related activities,  trial balance, balance statements, income statements, the five classes of accounts, the general journal, journal entries, HST, and correcting journal entries. Students are required to purchase the Basic Bookkeeping Manual and Working Papers ($132.25).  30 Hrs

Foot Care for Home Support Resident Care and Community Health Workers  

 

This six hour course is designed for those individuals who are responsible for performing safe foot care in their work setting.  Emphasis will be placed on increasing the awareness of safety with the skills and knowledge  needed by these caregivers in order to promote e the best possible functioning for the feet of the aging resident and client.  6 Hrs

Generational Poverty Workshop

Based on the book A Framework for Understanding Poverty by Ruby K. Payne, PH.D, this seminar provides in-depth information that will increase your knowledge of people in poverty and give you tools for working with members of this economic class.  You’ll learn how economic class affects behaviours and mindsets, why students from generational poverty often fear being educated, the ‘hidden rules’ within economic classes, discipline interventions that improve     behaviour and the eight resources that make a difference in success.  8 Hrs

Global Ground Disturbance - Levels I and II

This one day course is designed for anyone who is supervising a ground disturbance, independently performing a ground disturbance, or issuing and receiving ground disturbance permits.  Level I is covered in the first 2 hours.  The program ensures that Level II personnel are familiar with, and fully understand all regulations and variances involved when a ground disturbance takes place.  Level II is the standardized program recognized by industry regulators.  Three year certification upon successful completion.  7 Hrs

Are you pursuing a career in trades or a trades-related field? Trades Math is a math prerequisite for either entry-level programs or apprenticeships.  This competency based course emphasizes basic math skills and  practical applications in trades.  Topics include: whole number operations, decimals, fractions, measurement systems and instruments, geometry of plane and solid figures, Pythagorean theorem, ratio, proportion, percentage, geometric constructions with circles, triangles, and lines plus trades-related problems for al topics.   90 Hrs
