 Managing Digital Photographs with Picasa

Picasa is an extremely user friendly digital photo organization and editing package that is available free for both Windows and Mac computers. Picasa is wonderful for scrapbookers and amateur photographers. This course moves through the basics of organizing folders, creating virtual photo albums, editing, cropping and retouching photos and adding special effects. Bring your own photos and .mp3 music files on a memory stick and learn how to create a photo gift cd and even your own movie that can be up-loaded to YouTube. 6 Hrs

Journal Writing

Use journal writing as a method of self discovery to stimulate your imagination. This therapeutic tool can help you deal with stress and is a mode of expressing a full range of emotions. It is a proven technique to develop a private relationship with self. Students will learn different methods of jour-naling, its history and benefits. Students must bring a notebook, sheet of stickers, pen, pencil, eraser, pencil and wax crayons. 4 Hrs

Mandala Drawing
Learn a  meditative technique that inspires creativity, unlocks the subconscious, and creates artwork through self exploration. Mandala drawing provides a basis of creative output and a form of communicating through art. This class will help you de-stress, relax and develop an attunement to the internal or external stimuli in your life. Student materials needed: Markers, pastels, pencil crayons, wax crayons, pencils, protractor set and large white paper.  4 Hrs

Multiple Dimensions of Mental Health

Are you struggling with mental health issues? Or, are you in a support position where your clients may be struggling?
Obtain a better understanding of the factors affecting stress and how to manage the symptoms that stem from prolonged bouts of stress. Insomnia, anxiety, OCD, depression and various non-organic based physical problems may all be warning signs of an underlying mental health problem.
Parts 1 and 2 will be covered in the first evening. Part 1 covers contributors to good mental health and considerations when constructing a plan to maintain positive mental health. Part 2 looks more closely at the signs and symptoms of a system in distress, acknowledging that different symptoms require different interventions. A number of strategies will be provided.
Part 3 will be covered in the second evening. It will examine the biochemistry of stress, anxiety and depression and the role of medications in relieving the associated symptoms. 2.5 Hrs
A bibliography will be provided .

Music Appreciation

Join well known Canadian composer and conductor of the Northern Orchestra, Gordon Lucus for this survey course of the history of Western Music.  You’ll start with Ancient Greek, through the Medieval and Renaissance periods, but concentrate on the Baroque to Modern eras. The course will include a handbook, recorded examples, and live performances in the classroom situation, demonstrating the development of music from the standpoint of the famous composers, the importance they had to their times and contemporary events and developments that shaped their aesthetics.  30 Hrs

Have you a 9 to 12 year old ? Register to develop cycling skills that will allow your child to have fun, enjoy and explore the real adventure of cycling and experi-ence success on a variety of levels. Sprockids National introduces four skill areas of cycling: safety, etiquette, riding and bicycle maintenance. The course promotes the values of respect for oth-ers, empathy, appreciation and responsi-bility for the environment. 12 Hrs

Cybersafe

Internet safety is on the mind of every parent. This workshop will help kids understand the seriousness of online safety using interactive, non-threatening and entertaining lessons. Participants will learn the rules for using social networks, how to recognize warning signs from online predators, how to identify, avoid and respond to cyber bullying and how to get the most out of the internet while staying safe. Rec-ommended for children ages 8 – 11. 2 Hrs

This dynamic course from Kid Proof Canada is designed for girls who are at an age to start test-ing their limitations and are seeking more inde-pendence. CORE Hunter Training
