The Aboriginal Services Plan (ASP) provides an opportunity for the College to seek input, direction and guidance from the Aboriginal communities on ways of increasing access, retention, completion and transition of Aboriginal learners. Together, Aboriginal communities and CNC developed and support the following Nechako ASP Shared Vision: “As First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples proud of our unique culture, language and values, we are committed to working together with the College of New Caledonia to provide a balanced holistic education for all. We will achieve our goals by challenging ourselves and being responsible for our future.”
Nechako’s ASP includes seven First Nation communities, a Métis organization, three Aboriginal organizations and the school district. With guidance provided by the Nechako ASP Working Group, CNC Nechako has implemented a number of services and activities for supporting participation of communities and learners in the Nechako region: · Aboriginal Liaison/Coordinator · Aboriginal Support Worker · Established Gathering Places in Vanderhoof and Fort St. James · Acknowledgement of Traditional Territories on Nechako website · Celebrations of student success and achievements · Supporting language in communities and on-campus · Cross Cultural Awareness initiatives
