Placement Dates

The Placement dates for the beginning of the 2012 - 2013 academic year are as follows.

4 - 7:00 p.m.

               

  * There is a $5 fee prior to taking the assessment.

 All assessments are arranged for Room S121.

 

 

 

General Information

The Placement Assessment begins at the appointed time. Participants arriving late will not be admitted.

If you are late, you may re-register for the next available placement date. There are two brief forms to be completed before beginning the assessment.

 

 

The assessment is divided into two parts.

  1. English - 1 hour 30 minutes (approx.)
  2. Math - 1 hour (approx.)

 

For entry into an English class only:

take the English section of the assessment.

 

For entry in a Math class only:

take the English and math sections.

Your reading comprehension must be assessed for entry into math classes to ensure your success.

 

For entry into a Science course:

take the English and math sections as your reading and your math skills must be assessed.

 

For entry into Chemistry 050:

(if more than one year out of Chem 11 and/ or less than a grade of B attained in Chem 11),

take the English and math sections and request the chemistry placement.

This assessment takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

 

 

ENGLISH

• You will be assessed on your reading comprehension skills

• You will write a paragraph and a short essay from given topics

 

MATH

You will be assessed on the following concepts without the use of a calculator.

• Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

• Fractions

• Metric system

• Percentages

• Decimals

 

We will provide you with a calculator to complete the following components:

• basic algebra

• exponents

• polynomials

• inequalities

•equation solving

• graphing trigonometry
