Clothing List -------------------------------------------------------


In mountainous regions, weather conditions can be very unpredictable, and can change very quickly. You should be prepared for all conditions by layering your clothing. When dressing in layers, you should have:

1) An Inner Layer of Wicking Materi
al

- avoid cotton as it retains moisture
- polypropylene and polyester are good choices for this layer
- t-shirts and long-sleeved shirts
- long underwear
- inner socks (light wool and/or synthetic)


2) Insulating Layer

- to provide insulation while allowing perspiration to escape

- wool or cotton/polyester blend sweater
- fleece or wool jacket
- fleece or wool pants
- fleece or wool gloves
- outer socks (wool and/or synthetic)


3) Outer Wind-Stopping Layer

- should be made of waterproof, breathable material such as Gore-Tex
- rain jackets
- rain pants
- gloves or mitts


Other clothing items which will be needed include:

        - hiking boots with ankle support (well broken in)
        - sunglasses
        - sunhat
        - fleece or wool hat (such as a toque)
        - shorts
        - swimsuit
        - sneakers
        - river sandals or wetboots (for rafting course)



Equipment List ----------------------------------------------------


The following outlines some of the equipment which will be required by students in the program. Students may wish to delay purchasing the equipment until after the start of the program in order to insure that their purchases will be suitable for their needs within the program.


General

- Rite in the Rain logbook
- sleeping bag (in waterproof stuffsack)
- sleeping pad
- daypack with two shoulder straps (not sling style)
- binoculars (optional)
- water bottle
- whistle
- knife

- miscellaneous personal camping gear
- flashlight or headlamp
- personal First Aid Kit

 

ECOT 170 - Avalanche Awareness
-
suitable winter clothing and boots


ECOT 171 - Cross Country Ski Touring

- The College provides skis with Salomon SNS Profil Automatic bindings, and poles, but does not provide boots. You will need your own cross country ski boots compatible with Salomon SNS Profil bindings. If you have boots with different bindings, you will also need to provide your own skis.


ECOT 173 - Snowmobile Touring

- suitable winter clothing and boots without metal lace hardware to avoid damage to the snowmobile seats.


ECOT 174 - Freshwater Fishing I

- fishing line, lures, and flies


ECOT 179 - Canoeing I

- kneepads (optional)
