Role of the Board

Institutional Boards (Board of Directors) occupy a central position in the governance of all public sector organizations. The College of New Caledonia Board acts on behalf of the public and oversees the affairs of the institution performing functions consistent with the College and Institute Act that the Board considers prudent for the administration and advancement of the institution. The success the College in meeting its many community needs is determined by the deliberations, actions and policy formulations of its governing board. Board Composition

The composition of the College of New Caledonia Board is legislated under Section 9 of the College and Institution Act.

Appointment Process

The Province of BC’s Board Resourcing and Development Office (BRDO) is responsible for
establishing guidelines for all provincial appointments to institutional Boards and monitors the
process to ensure that all appointments are made in an open, transparent and consistent

Election Process

The rules for the election of Faculty, Support Staff and Student representatives to the Board can be
obtained from the Registrar's Office. For more information click here.

Term of Office

Board members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council (OIC) shall be appointed for a term of one year and eligible for reappointment for two further terms of two years and three years
respectively, for a total of six years.
Members of the Board elected by faculty and support staff serve three-year terms and may be
elected to further terms. Student members serve one-year terms and may be elected to further
terms. The President and Chair of Education Council are non-voting members (ex officio).
