50th Anniversary Entrance Awards

To celebrate its upcoming 50th anniversary, the College of New Caledonia (CNC) has dedicated $100,000 to the creation of 94 new student entrance awards for the 2019/2020 academic year.This is the first time that entrance awards have been offered at CNC. All domestic students (both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal) who apply for credentialed programs at any of CNC’s six campuses for the 2019 Fall and 2020 Spring semesters will automatically be entered for a chance to receive one of these unique entrance awards.

There are 79 awards divided among CNC’s program areas such as health sciences, community and continuing education, trades and university transfer. CNC is also offering 15 general entrance awards with five dedicated to international students, five for Aboriginal students and five for non-Aboriginal domestic students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for CNC entrance awards?

All domestic students who apply for credentialed programs at any of CNC’s six campuses for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters are eligible. International students who apply for credentialed programs are not eligible for program-specific awards, but qualify for one of five general awards dedicated to international students. At this time, academic upgrading students, ESL students, and trades apprenticeship students who are not enrolled in any credentialed programs are not eligible. What is the application deadline for entrance awards?

Are the entrance awards available to both full and part time students?

Both part-time and full-time students are eligible for entrance awards.

When will applicants be notified of their award?

Successful candidates will be notified in their letters of acceptance to CNC, which are mailed to students after March 31, 2019.

Are applicants eligible for more than one award if they apply to more than one program?

Students can only receive one entrance award. If the award is program-specific, it cannot be transferred to another program.

What can the entrance award be used for?

Entrance awards can be used for tuition and student fees for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters.

What happens if the entrance award is more than the total tuition and student fees?

In the event that an entrance award is more than a student’s total tuition and student fees for the Fall 2019 semester, the remaining award funds can be carried over to the Spring 2020 semester. Entrance award funds cannot be used in the 2020 Intersession semester or forwarded into subsequent academic years.

Does receiving an entrance award affect students’ eligibility for other CNC awards or StudentAid BC?

If a student receives a 50th Anniversary Entrance Award, they are still eligible for other CNC awards. Full-time students who receive an entrance award would need to declare this amount on their StudentAid BC application.

Are students who are already receiving third party sponsorship (for example, through band funding or WorkBC) eligible for 50th Anniversary Entrance Awards?

Yes, students who are already receiving third party sponsorship are eligible for entrance awards. Applicants who receive an entrance award would need to understand the implications for their sponsorship, and can deny the award if requested.

How much are the awards?
