Q: How do I use a USB drive (jump drives or thumb drives)?
A: USB Drives are also known as "jump drives" or "thumb drives" and can be bought from any reputable retail outlet. Please ensure when purchasing a USB "thumb" drive they say on the package "no drivers required for Windows XP systems". If your USB drive requires special drivers installed it will "not" work with any of the lab systems. Because of the nature of the design of these devices it is possible for them to fail just like a basic floppy disk. If left outside in extreme heat, exposed to moisture or even dropped firmly the drive can fail. It is also very important that the USB "thumb" drive not be removed from the system until the system is finish writing or reading the data from it. The College of New Caledonia will not be held accountable for any lost or damaged data. They are to be used strictly at your own risk. Make sure the computer is booted up before you put your USB drive in the system.
Q: Why is my thumb/flash drive not working?
A: Sometimes users may find that their USB “thumb” drives are not recognized when they are plugged in. This is caused by the Windows operating system’s inability to properly recognize mapped network drives.
