Email Upgrade, News, Help and information

New Help pages are being developed by the college community. The Library has an excellent introduction to our email interface (called SurgeWeb) and the Institute for Learning, Teaching and Research have created some YouTube videos for you to utilize and we are adding our own to the mix.

SurgeWeb addresses many of the issues raised in the survey that was conducted back in September of 2007. Among the improvements are;
  1. Email address importing, exporting and sharing has been made easier to understand and perform
  2. Attachments are not lost when saving the message as a draft and while creating a message it is automatically saved to draft until the message is sent and if you create a "Templates" folder you can permanently save "draft" messages as templates for future reuse.
  3. Attachments are easier to attach with multiple file attachment abilities made easier
  4. You can now open several messages and compose in a separate window simultaneously using popout's or tabbed messages
  5. Ability to flag a message as important to self or as a reminder for self has been added as something called a label. These labels can be specific to SurgeWeb only or you can setup some labels so they can be seen in other email readers like Outlook
  6. Address books have been renamed to Contacts and they're easier to use with drag and drop functionality as well
  7. You can create subfolders to better organize received email
  8. You can use drag and drop with moving your email between folders, set mail priorities and more

The look and feel of SurgeWeb is a substantial improvement over WebMail and the performance has been greatly improved by using AJAX programming.

SurgeWeb is still in beta testing at this time. Be aware that not every feature of SurgeWeb has been implemented yet. Still, with that disclaimer in mind we are happy to tell you that its abilities and usability is better than it's predicessor WebMail.
