Office Admin and Bookkeeping Enhanced
  • Description: The Office Admin & Bookkeeping Enhanced program will provide an excellent introduction to the automated office environment with a focus on customer service and communication. It is designed to provide an experiential learning experience that will develop skills for students to work in a variety of office settings.
    In addition to office administration skills, the program will provide a well-rounded understanding of the complete bookkeeping cycle, from how to set up a company through the full year’s business cycle for both a manual and computerized accounting systems. Students successfully completing the program will receive a CNC Award of Participation Certificate.

Business Writing that Works
  • Description: In business writing, the language is concrete, the point of view is clear, and the points are well expressed. Good writing is hard work, and even the best writers get discouraged. However, with practice you can feel more confident about your own writing. This two-day workshop will give you the tools to become a better writer.
    What Will Students Learn?
    • The value of good written communication.
    • How to write and proofread your work so it is clear, concise, complete, and correct.
    • How to apply these skills in real world situations.
    • The proper format for memos, letters, and e-mails.

Microsoft Office 2016 Excel Level 2
  • Description: Microsoft Office Excel Level 2. This course is intended to help all users get up to speed on the different features of Excel and to become familiar with its more advanced selection of features. We will cover how to create and use advanced formulas, analyze data, organize worksheet data with tables, visualize data with charts, insert graphics, and enhance workbooks.

Food Safe Level 1
  • Description: FoodSafe Level 1 is a food handling, sanitation and work safety course for front line food service workers. The course covers food-borne illness & receiving, storing, preparing, and serving food. Northern Health 5 year Certification.

Food Safe Level 2
  • Description: The course contains a large amount of information – students must be prepared for a large amount of information and learning in this 12 hour (2 day course). Prior successful completion of Foodsafe Level 1 Certificate is highly recommended as there will be references to this level. Topics not limited to, but will cover:
    • A short review of Foodsafe Level 1
    • Modules on Managing Food Safety
    • Writing a Food Safety Plan
    This course is for food service owners, managers, kitchen managers and/or senior/executive chefs or those hoping to seek employment in these fields. It presents material using verbal instruction, a colourful slide presentation and videos to emphasize the information.

Mental Health First Aid - Basic
  • Description: Anyone can benefit from Mental Health First Aid. Families affected by mental health problems, teachers, health service providers, emergency workers, frontline workers who deal with the public, volunteers, human resources professionals, employers and community groups are just a few of the groups who have benefited from Mental Health First Aid.
    This 12-hour course is open to everyone. Participants will learn how to provide initial help to people who are showing signs of a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.

Occupational First Aid Level 1
  • Description: Level 1 is an 8 hour program designed to provide lifesaving first aid skills to workers in industry. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and be able to understand and perform the first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks. No previous first aid training is required.

Occupational First Aid Level 3
  • Description: Level 3 is a 70 hour (2 week) program designed to provide Occupational First Aid Attendants with the skills and knowledge needed to fulfill OFA Level 3 requirements. On successful completion of the course WorkSafeBC Certification is awarded.

  • Description: It’s the perfect time to learn Spanish! This course will be presented in an interactive hands-on language learning experience. You will learn the basics you will need for your travels abroad! From the time you step off the plane, hop in a cab and order your first “cerveza”, your language needs are covered!   • Description: This course is suitable for persons with little or no operational experience or if your certification has lapsed past re-certification time frame. The course consists of classroom-based theory, written test and then individual hands-on operating instruction and a practical operating test. Ives 2 year certificate awarded on successful completion. Please note that steel-toed boots are REQUIRED. Students must be 16 years of age of older. Although not required for course, previous fall protection training is recommended.

Bear Awareness and Avoidance
  • Description: When working, hunting, camping or enjoying recreational activities in the outdoors – we run the risk of bear encounters. This course will provide information to better understand bear behavior, habits and characteristics. You will learn how to correctly assess and effectively respond to bear encounters and gain valuable knowledge regarding bear safety to assist when planning time in bear country.

Chainsaw Safety and Maintenance
  • Description: Topics covered in this course are focused on WorkSafe Regulations and will include:

Confined Space Entry, Monitor and Rescue
  • Description: This comprehensive course includes due diligence, legislation, confined space hazards and controls, permits, Emergency Rescue Plan (ERP), and simulation for untrained workers as rescuers. No open sandals or flip flops, students must wear socks. Students MUST provide photo ID. 3 year Green Seal Certificate.

Counterbalance Forklift
  • Description: Ives 2 year Certificate. This course is suitable for persons with little or no operational experience. The course consists of a classroom based theory portion, written test and then individual hands on operating instructions and a driving test. A driver's license is not required unless the forklift will be operating on a public road. Students must be 16 years of age. Steel-toed boots are required.

Electrical Code Refresher
  • Description: This 51 hour course is a provincially-recognized course designed for electricians, contractors, maintenance supervisors and others who need to update their knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, and those preparing for the Field Service Representative exam.
    The course is also excellent for those electricians, technologists or engineers that merely want to refresh their knowledge and update their skills.
    The course and instructor are recognized by Technical Safety BC (formerly BC Safety Authority). Information pertaining to the eligibility requirements for writing the FSR exam (cost not included as part of this program) should be obtained from the Technical Safety BC website.

Fire Entrapment Avoidance & Safety
  • Description: S185 Upon completion, the participant will demonstrate a basic knowledge of fire entrapment avoidance safe work procedures. Included in the training is Fire Entrapment Avoidance and Fire Entrapment Escape/Survival

Fire Suppression
  • Description: S100 One day in the classroom, one in the field. Firefighting requires a high level of fitness; students should ensure they can carry 60 pounds up steep terrain. Upon completion, the student will demonstrate basic knowledge of the wildland fire suppression organizational structure, wildland fire environment, suppression, safety procedures and equipment used in BC to effectively and safely respond as a basic wildland firefighter.
    Students must wear work boots and dress appropriately for outdoor weather to complete practical component of course on second day of class and must wear work boots for second day “in the field” training

H2S Protection
  • Description: Students learn the properties of H2S, other hazardous gases, PPE requirements, SABA and SCBA, testing devices, and placement. Students perform the monitor bump test for peaks and SCBA inspection, donning & doffing. 3 year Green Seal Certificate.

Rough Terrain (Class 7) Forklift Training
  • Description:. This course inlcudes Zoom Boom, Telehandler, and Loader, and is suitable for persons with little or no operational experience or if your certification has lapsed past re-certification time frame. The course consists of classroom-based theory, written test and then individual hands-on operating instruction and a practical operating test. Ives 2 year certificate awarded on successful completion. Please note that steel-toed boots are REQUIRED. Students must be 16 years of age of older. BC Drivers’ License is not required unless you are driving forklift on public roadways/access.

Traffic Control Certification
  • Description: This two-day Standardized Traffic Control Person course is approved by WorkSafe BC. Certification is required to control traffic on all public roads in British Columbia. Upon successful completion, participants will receive Safety Network photo identification that is valid for three years anywhere in the province of British Columbia.

Trail Design and Maintenance Program
  • Description: Program Overview. The successful completion of this 6-week program provides students with a solid foundation in trail design and maintenance. This program provides two key components:
    • Increasing knowledge of safety, legislation and best practices involved in the design, construction and maintenance of recreational trails.
    • Developing skills that can enrich, improve, revitalize and sustain recreational trails.

    Along with applicable technical skills in Trail Design and Maintenance, program curriculum also includes ATV, GPS, Wilderness First Aid and BC Wildfire courses. Learning is shared between the classroom and the field – allowing students to learn valuable theory and then applying that knowledge in a practical environment. Students must wear work boots and dress appropriately for outdoor weather to complete practical components of the course deliveries.

Transportation Endorsement
  • Description: Designed to prepare OFA Attendants Level 1 with the skills and knowledge needed to move and transport injured/ill works to medical aid. Students MUST bring photo ID and valid OFA Level 1 certificate to the course. Students MUST complete the entire 8 hours of course instruction. Certification is issued by WorkSafeBC, from the date of completion of the course.
    PLEASE NOTE: Certification expiry date is changing (from 3 years to 2 years). Dependent on the date of Worksafe BC’s implementation of this regulation change – this may apply to students in this course.

  • Description: Microsoft Office Outlook. Are you overwhelmed by emails, meetings, and to-do lists?   • Description: In the field of accounting, employers require a sound understanding of accounting principles, as well as general computer literacy skills. In this course, the student will be taught to transfer manual bookkeeping skills to an automated accounting program.
    Prerequisites: Successful completion of Manual Bookkeeping, ABTA-070 Secretarial Bookkeeping, or ABTB–073 Financial Records, or equivalent as assessed by the Instructor or Regional Principal.

Quickbooks
  • Description: This program provides the students with the opportunities to acquire current skills in the latest software in accounting and office functions to meet the demands of today’s business. Participants will be provided with instructor led "hands-on" computer training in classroom. The emphasis is on practical experience through exercises in office applications, general ledger and accounts receivable using QuickBooks.

Management Skills for Supervisors - Level 1
  • Description: Stop dreading those difficult conversations, and learn how to have successful conversations when it really matters. We’ve all had a difficult conversation that went really well, and we’ve all had conversations that seemed to go completely off the rails. This course begins by exploring two of the most common factors in miscommunication, then delving into concepts of motivation, intention, and perception. A TKI assessment will help you understand your preferred conflict handling style, learn all five conflict-handling styles and identify when to use them. Then you’ll develop the listening, assertiveness, questioning, paraphrasing and feedback skills you need to communicate clearly and effectively.

Basic Labourer Program
  • Description: This 12-week program will provide hands-on and classroom training that also includes a two week work placement. Particular emphasis will be on obtaining industry certificate training and basic construction/labourer skills that will lead to the increase of employability for participants.
    This program will be a blend of essential skills, certificate training, technical training, and a work placement to ensure that participants become attractive employees in an ever increasing job market. Whether it is an individual who has no prior work experience, a person re-entering the job market after an absence or someone who wants to make the shift to a more ‘trades’ related work environment this training will help people in becoming more employable.

Building Service Worker - Level 1
  • Description: This course constitutes an introduction to the skills required to work in the building service custodial field. Upon successful completion of this course, including written and skills demonstration exams, the student will be issued a BSW 1-Introduction Certificate. Possession of this Certificate is a prerequisite or preferred qualification for employment for many school boards, colleges, recreation centres, and institutions.

  • Description: CSTS is an online basic safety program acknowledged industry-wide as an excellent learning tool for those new to the construction industry or who have not had formal safety training.

Camp Cook
  • Description: This 12-week program will run full-time 30 hours per week and will be a combination of theory and practical time. With an integration of Essential Skills participants will learn basic food techniques in preparation and presentation all with a focus on safety, hygiene and sanitation. Participants will receive their FoodSafe Level 1 certificate, Serving it Right, WorldHost, WHMIS and OFA Level 1 this combination of skills is highly attractive to employers. Upon successful completion students will have workable knowledge of all components, as well as portion control, menu planning, cost control and maintaining standard industry practices.
    Students who successfully complete the program will receive a College of New Caledonia Award of Participation.

Electrical Field Safety Representative
  • Description: This 51 hour code refresher course prepares qualified electricians to write their Field Safety Representative (A, B, or C ticket) exam. The course is also excellent for those electricians, technologists or engineers that merely want to refresh their knowledge and update their skills to the latest edition of the code. The course and instructor are recognized by the BC Safety Authority. Information pertaining to the eligibility requirements for writing the FSR exam (cost not included as part of this program) should be obtained from the BC Safety Authority.

  • Description: This course covers legislation, due diligence, fall dynamics, protection systems, inspection and care of equipment, suspension trauma, Emergency Rescue Plan (ERP), fall protection plan exercises, and more.

Fire Suppression
  • Description: S100 One day in the classroom, one in the field. Firefighting requires a high level of fitness; students should ensure they can carry 60 pounds up steep terrain. Upon completion, the student will demonstrate basic knowledge of the wildland fire suppression organizational structure, wildland fire environment, suppression, safety procedures and equipment used in BC to effectively and safely respond as a basic wildland firefighter.

S100/S185 Fire Suppression & Fire Entrapment, Avoidance, and Safety
  • Description: One day in the classroom, one in the field, students must wear work boots for the second day "in the field" training.
    S100: Classroom and hands on, firefighting requires a high level of fitness; students should ensure they can carry 60 pounds up steep terrain.
    S185: Upon completion, the student will demonstrate a basic knowledge of fire entrapment avoidance safe work procedures. Included in the training is Fire Entrapment Avoidance and Fire Entrapment Escape/Survival.

Food Safe Level 1
  • Description: FoodSafe Level 1 is a food handling, sanitation and work safety course for front line food service workers. The course covers food-borne illness & receiving, storing, preparing, and serving food.

  • Description: FoodSafe Level 2 is for those responsible for managing food safety in food service. The course includes a short review of FoodSafe Level 1, managing for food safety, and writing a food safety plan.

Forklift Operator Certification
  • Description: Ives 2 year Certificate. This course is suitable for persons with little or no operational experience. The course consists of a four hour classroom based theory portion, written test and then individual hands on operating instructions and a driving test. A driver's license is not required unless the forklift will be operating on a public road. Students must be 16 years of age. Steel-toed boots are required.

Class 7 Rough Terrain Forklift Training
  • Description:. This course is suitable for persons with little or no operational experience or if your certification has lapsed past re-certification time frame. The course consists of classroom-based theory, written test and then individual hands-on operating instruction and a practical operating test. Ives 2 year certificate awarded on successful completion. Please note that steel-toed boots are REQUIRED. Students must be 16 years of age of older. BC Drivers’ License is not required unless you are driving forklift on public roadways/access.

H2S Protection
  • Description: Students learn the properties of H2S, other hazardous gases, PPE requirements, SABA and SCBA, testing devices, and placement. Students perform the monitor bump test for peaks and SCBA inspection, donning & doffing.

Manlift Combo Package
  • Description: Scissor Lift and Aerial Boom Lift This 2 day combo package includes training for both Scissor lift and Aerial Boom Lift. The course consists of classroom-based theory, written test and then individual hands-on operating instruction and a practical operating test. Ives 2 year certificate awarded on successful completion for each course. Please note that steel-toed boots are REQUIRED. Students must be 16 years of age of older. Occupational First Aid Level 1
  • Description: Level 1 is an 8 hour program designed to provide lifesaving first aid skills to workers in industry. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and be able to understand and perform the first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks. No previous first aid training in required.

  • Description: A 36 hour first aid course primarily designed for the urban first aid attendant and applicable to WorkSafeBC Regulations. On successful completion of the course a 3 year WorkSafeBC Certification is awarded.

Rigging and Lifting
  • Description: This course provides vital information for those assisting or working around lifting operations. Specific topics include hoisting and rigging hazard recognition, knots, lifting hardware, materials, hand signals and working load limits. Information covers lifts using large fix-tower cranes and knuckle and telescoping boom trucks. It is an awareness course designed for employees that work directly or around lifting operations.

  • Description: Serving It Right is British Columbia's mandatory self-study course that educates licensees, managers and servers about their legal responsibilities when serving alcohol, and provides effective techniques to prevent problems related to over-service. Traffic Control Certification
  • Description: This two-day Standardized Traffic Control Person course is approved by WorkSafe BC. Certification is required to control traffic on all public roads in British Columbia.
