Essential Skills for Employment
  • Description: The Essential Skills for Employment program provides opportunities for students to measure and build their skills to boost their opportunities to gain employment or make informed choices when considering future training.
    The program will integrate essential skills training and will be delivered in a variety of formats; in-school theory components, self-study, hands-on practical experience and will focus on safety in the workplace, employer expectations, realistic working conditions and developing interpersonal skills.

Office Admin Enhanced / Bookkeeping Certificate
  • Description: The Office Admin Enhanced Bookkeeping program will provide an excellent introduction to the automated office environment with a focus on customer service and communication. It is designed to provide an experiential learning experience that will help students make an informed choice when considering future education or careers. In addition to office administration skills, the program will provide a well-rounded understanding of the complete bookkeeping cycle, from how to set up a company through the full year’s business cycle for both a manual and computerized accounting systems. Students completing the program will receive a CNC Award of Participation Certificate.

Food Safe Level 1
  • Description: FoodSafe Level 1 is a food handling, sanitation and work safety course for front line food service workers. The course covers food-borne illness & receiving, storing, preparing, and serving food.

Occupational First Aid Level 1
  • Description: Level 1 is an 8 hour program designed to provide lifesaving first aid skills to workers in industry. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and be able to understand and perform the first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks. No previous first aid training is required.

Occupational First Aid Level 3
  • Description: Level 3 is a 70 hour (2 week) program designed to provide Occupational First Aid Attendants with the skills and knowledge needed to fulfill OFA Level 3 requirements. On successful completion of the course a 3 year WorkSafeBC Certification is awarded.

Occupational First Aid Level 3 Rewrites/Challenges
  • Description: This option is available for those who have not been successful in recent past OFA Level 3 course or wish to challenge and have their own manual from previous course as there are no student supplies. Those students who were recently unsuccessful in past courses have first priority in this course. Those students who wish to “challenge” and haven’t taken a OFA Level 3 course within the past year must provide proof of OFA Level 3 previous certification at time of registration. On successful completion of the course a 3 year WorkSafeBC Certification is awarded.

Transportation Endorsement
  • Description: This course is designed to prepare Occupational First Aid Attendants, Level 1, with the skills and knowledge needed to move and transport injured/ill workers to medical aid. Candidates must have OFA Level 1 certification and must be at least 16 years of age.

  • Description: Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS). WHMIS 2015 training strives to ensure a safer, healthier workplace. Topics covered include updated Global Harmonizing System, classifications, labels, safety data sheets (SDS), education and implementation.

Confined Space Entry
  • Description: This comprehensive course includes due diligence, legislation, confined space hazards and controls, permits, Emergency Rescue Plan (ERP), and simulation for untrained workers as rescuers.

H2S Protection

  • Description: It’s the perfect time to learn Spanish! This course will be presented in an interactive hands-on language learning experience. You will learn the basics you will need for your travels abroad! From the time you step off the plane, hop in a cab and order your first “cerveza”, your language needs are covered! Fun, fast, easy and interactive!

  • Description: CESS 151 – Management Skills for Supervisors: Part 1, Interpersonal Communication & Conflict Resolution. The participant progresses through the fundamental steps in the communication cycle. Through a series of structured exercises, key concepts are taught regarding the one to one communication process; the informational interview, problem solving and conflict resolution.   • Description: Management Skills for Supervisors Level 3 Self-Management & Leadership Skill Development . What distinguishes a great leader from an average one? Effective leaders are able to manage their stress, remain optimistic even in difficult times, manage their time effectively, and are able to leverage their strengths. They have a vision that they can communicate to their followers, and are able to lead their teams through change and uncertainty.   • Description: This course introduces students to the bookkeeping profession. Bookkeeping Level 3
  • Description: Bookkeeping Level 3 continues with a focus on adjusting the balance sheet to accurately reflect balance at the fiscal year end. The student will learn how to calculate the required adjustments for bad debts, prepaid expenses, depreciation on fixed assets, inventory valuations and unearned rent and post all the yearend adjustments to prepare the yearend financial statements.

Quickbooks
  • Description: This program provides the students with the opportunities to acquire current skills in the latest software in accounting and office functions to meet the demands of today’s business. Participants will be provided with instructor led "hands-on" computer training in classroom. The emphasis is on practical experience through exercises in office applications, general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable using QuickBooks.

Payroll
  • Description: This course takes an in-depth look at payroll concepts and builds on the payroll knowledge gained from previous bookkeeping courses. The students will learn how to account for various pay structures, and how to deal with special deductions for RRSP, pension, family maintenance and employee benefits. Also covered in the course are the detailed statutory regulations regarding taxable benefits and year-end compliance reporting.

Excel for Bookkeepers
  • Description: In this course students will learn how to use Excel as tool to facilitate the accounting function for small businesses. This course will focus on the synoptic journal replacing the general journal and all special journals. It is similar to an accounting worksheet and is ideal for an Excel environment. This is ideal for small business without too many transactions. Through the use of a case study this course will take the student through the full accounting cycle from the inception of a business to the year-end financial statement.

Basic Labourer Program
  • Description: This 12-week program will provide hands-on and classroom training that also includes a two week work placement. Particular emphasis will be on obtaining industry certificate training and basic construction/labourer skills that will lead to the increase of employability for participants.
    This program will be a blend of essential skills, certificate training, technical training, and a work placement to ensure that participants become attractive employees in an ever increasing job market. Whether it is an individual who has no prior work experience, a person re-entering the job market after an absence or someone who wants to make the shift to a more ‘trades’ related work environment this training will help people in becoming more employable.

One-Day Computer Basics
  • Description: This Basic Computer Skills Course is designed for people who have no, or very little, computer skills knowledge. This course is designed to give an overview and basic knowledge of working with a window, using word processing functions, as well as teach internet search and e-mail utilization which is essential to success in obtaining employment and in the workplace.

Electrical Field Safety Representative
  • Description: This 51 hour code refresher course prepares qualified electricians to write their Field Safety Representative (A, B, or C ticket) exam. The course is also excellent for those electricians, technologists or engineers that merely want to refresh their knowledge and update their skills to the latest edition of the code. The course and instructor are recognized by the BC Safety Authority. Information pertaining to the eligibility requirements for writing the FSR exam (cost not included as part of this program) should be obtained from the BC Safety Authority.

  • Description: This course takes some of the mystery out of computers. Topics covered include: an inside look at the computer parts, introduction to Windows operating system, working with files and folders, working with programs and introduction to the internet.

  • Description: This course is designed to give the student an introduction of the accounting process. The student will be taught a system of bookkeeping that can be used in a business office. On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to manually keep a simple set of books to trial balance.

  • Description: This program provides the students with the opportunities to acquire current skills in the latest software in accounting and office functions to meet the demands of today’s business. Participants will be provided with instructor led "hands-on" computer training in classroom. The emphasis is on practical experience through exercises in office applications, general ledger and accounts receivable using QuickBooks.
    Prerequisites: Successful completion of Manual Bookkeeping, ABTA-070 Secretarial Bookkeeping, or ABTB–073 Financial Records, or equivalent as assessed by the Instructor or Regional Principal

Management Skills for Supervisors - Level 1
  • Description: Stop dreading those difficult conversations, and learn how to have successful conversations when it really matters. We’ve all had a difficult conversation that went really well, and we’ve all had conversations that seemed to go completely off the rails. This course begins by exploring two of the most common factors in miscommunication, then delving into concepts of motivation, intention, and perception. A TKI assessment will help you understand your preferred conflict handling style, learn all five conflict-handling styles and identify when to use them. Then you’ll develop the listening, assertiveness, questioning, paraphrasing and feedback skills you need to communicate clearly and effectively.

Forklift Operator Certification
  • Description: Ives 2 year Certificate. This course is suitable for persons with little or no operational experience. The course consists of a four hour classroom based theory portion, written test and then individual hands on operating instructions and a driving test. A driver's license is not required unless the forklift will be operating on a public road. Students must be 16 years of age. Steel-toed boots are required.

Rigging and Lifting
  • Description: This course provides vital information for those assisting or working around lifting operations. Specific topics include hoisting and rigging hazard recognition, knots, lifting hardware, materials, hand signals and working load limits. Information covers lifts using large fix-tower cranes and knuckle and telescoping boom trucks. It is an awareness course designed for employees that work directly or around lifting operations.

Traffic Control
  • Description: This two-day Standardized Traffic Control Person course is approved by WorkSafe BC. Certification is required to control traffic on all public roads in British Columbia. Upon successful completion, participants will receive Safety Network photo identification that is valid for three years anywhere in the province of British Columbia.
