Research Forest

NSERC Project

CNC was awarded a research grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council to conduct research on forestry and climate change issues in partnership with Dunkley Lumber.  CNC faculty and Dunkley employees have begun  research projects examining site and climate considerations around facilitated tree species migration in the region, monitoring climate-related shifts in soil moisture and vegetation communities,  and comparing the abilities of LiDAR and digital elevation model technologies to predict stand-level soil moisture.

Research schedule for the summer of 2012:

- Establish assisted migration seedling trials

- Establish oak fern monitoring transects

- Survey terrain attributes in LiDAR project areas

- Set up climate equipment at seedling trials (Youtube link)
