Education Council

Education Council was created in 1995, as required by amendments to the College and Institute Act, 1994. The purpose of this legislation was to increase participation by students, staff, faculty, and administrators in governance of the institution, by creating a system of institutional governance similar to the type of governance found in Canadian universities. The College of New Caledonia had initiated a concept of governance similar to Education Council in 1991. Academic Council, as it was known, had a similar composition and set of responsibilities as the present Education Council. CNC's Academic Council was often noted as a successful practice during the provincial discussions leading to the formal establishment of Education Councils.

Deadlines for 2024/2025 Academic Year:

August 2024: Revised Programs Admissions Requirements for implementation Fall 2025.
November 2024: Revised Programs or Courses learning outcomes for implementation Fall 2025.
March 2025: New Programs or Courses for implementation Fall 2025.

Deadlines for 2025/2026 Academic Year:

August 2025: Revised Programs Admissions Requirements for implementation Fall 2026.
November 2025: Revised Programs or Courses learning outcomes for implementation Fall 2026.
March 2026: New Programs or Courses for implementation Fall 2026.

Upcoming Education Council meeting dates are listed below. All meetings are held on a Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in the board room unless otherwise notified. To ensure that your agenda item is submitted in time for the meeting date, please refer to the submission deadline.

When submitting items for the agenda please make sure all information/documentation is complete as outlined in the Education Council Handbook and forward it to the administrative assistant for Education Council for circulation to the program advisory committees.
